Shabbat (aka shabbos) is the Jewish sabbath. It is celebrated every week from Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown. It is a day of rest, reflection, renewal and prayer. A portion of the Torah is read in the synagogue every Saturday in a yearly cycle. Jews may not do any work on Shabbat. Rabbi Schorsch tells host Larry Josephson that observance of Shabbat helps conserve the earth's resources. Shabbat is one of the most important Jewish holidays since it is observed every week of the year.
